Amusement at the Park

Esther Short Park will be hosting free concerts starting on July 9 and running through August 14. There are two different concert series for people to attend, one on Wednesdays at noon, and the other on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. Vancouver’s local parks will also be hosting free Friday night movies from July 11 to August 15. The location for the movies changes weekly, they are family friendly, and begin at dusk.

The Wednesday series is called “Destination Downtown Noon,” and will feature a wide variety of bands in its six week run. This series will be launched with the Vancouver Pops Orchestra, and will play host to a folk rock band, a bluegrass group, and even a country rock group.

Thursday nights are “Riverview Six to Sunset,” and will be opening with a Journey Tribute band. There will also be a horn driven band, a ‘60s and ‘70s band, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will be closing the series on August 14. People also have the option to participate in Pub in the Park during the Thursday concerts, which buys a table at Hilton’s Grays for a group of ten people. This package gives people a dinner for ten, beer and wine vouchers, and reserved seating for the concerts. The proceeds for this go to Fort Vancouver National Trust. To purchase a table for all six concerts is $1500, and half of the concerts is $750.

The Friday night movies will be at a different park each week, and will have pre-show activities before the films begin at dusk. The series will begin in Haagan Park and will be playing “UP.” The series will also show “Back to the Future,” and “The Goonies.” For a full list of the films and their locations, go to www.cityofvancouver.us/parksrec/page/friday-night-movies-park
