Emily Bratcher is a reporter for the VanCougar, and a freshman majoring in nursing. Her favorite movie is “Lady and the Tramp,” her favorite author is John Green, and her favorite bands are Cage the Elephants and The Lumineers. Her favorite color is purple and her favorite food is Eggo Waffles. The animal that best describes Emily is a baby turtle, because she is small, quiet, confused, and always trying to find her way back to the ocean; she considers the ocean to be a second home for her, and collects rocks and sea glass, hiking to look for more is one of her hobbies. Her other hobbies include reading, writing, Tae-Kwon Do, and playing the clarinet. If Emily could go back in time, she would travel to the late 1800s to meet her great-great-grandmother; she was Native American, and Emily would love to see her and her tribe, and learn about the culture. If she could have dinner with anyone, it would be John Green because his books excited her to read as a teenager and taught her the importance of books and being herself; writing became one of her passions through reading, and she aspires to his writing style. Even though she loves John Green as much as she does, the book that has impacted her life the most is “The Giving Tree” by Shell Silverstein. It taught her to be giving and humble, no matter how little you have. Emily’s hero is her mom, and Emily plays the clarinet, violin, and piano. She is a Hufflepuff and is on Team Instinct. Her favorite animal is a dog, and if she were a superhero she’d be the Dog Whisperer. Her superpowers are communicating with dogs, and understanding them and their language. Seeing dogs on campus always makes her smile.
