Shaynne Goodwin wins eighth annual Professional Sales Competition

Thirteen WSU Vancouver students competed in this year’s annual Professional Sales Competition, held at WSU Vancouver in December.  The meet was part of the eighth annual Meet the Firms Career Fair and Sales Competition.

Shaynne Goodwin, a senior majoring in business, and Jimmy Kramer, a senior majoring in management information systems, took first and second place respectively, said a press release from the WSU Vancouver College of Business. Both were awarded Herman Miller office chairs by Workplace Resource of Oregon. They will travel to Kennesaw, Ga., in March to represent WSU Vancouver at the National Collegiate Sales Competition. This will be Goodwin’s second year competing in the national event.

WSU Vancouver student, Justin Johnson, took third place in the competition. Azur Buljubasic placed fourth, Jennifer Piatti fifth and Shaina Schlanski took sixth. These students qualify to compete in the Western States Collegiate Sales Competition in Chico, Calif., in April. Devin Ferner, who placed seventh, will replace Piatti who graduated in December. Kate Vivian, who also placed in the competition, will train as team alternate.

WSU Vancouver performed well at both intercollegiate sales competitions in the past, taking first place at the NCSC in 2007 and reaching the quarter finals for the past two years.
WSU Vancouver took third place in the WSCSC last year and placed second the year before. Team member, Yan Doroshkin, took first place in the individual competition.

The event was sponsored by Workplace Resource of Oregon. Tom James Clothiers, will sponsor the students’ trip to Georgia. Consolidated Electrical Distributors, Zones, Inc., CTX—A Xerox Company and DiscoverOrg, are sponsoring the students’ trip to Chico to compete at the WSCSC.

Meet the Firms Career Fair, held concurrently with the competition, provided students with an opportunity to meet with ACS Professional Staffing, ADP, Airgas, Bankers Life and Casualty, CampusPoint, Cintas, Con-way Multimodal, Country Financial, Enterprise, Evolve Guest Controls, Fisher Investments, Nautilus, Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, Pinpoint Sales Group, Pfizer, Precoa, Safetec and Wacom.

Ron Pimentel, clinical assistant professor of marketing and associate director of the professional sales program, said the fair went well, with active interaction between students and prospective employers. The event was planned by the College of Business.
