SRC hosts the 2014 career and internship fair

Attending Washington State University Vancouver can be advantageous for students in that the campus is not only located in Vancouver, a thriving area, densely populated with diverse businesses, but is also located just across the river from the even larger city of Portland. With such access to different businesses and organizations, WSU Vancouver students have an advantage over other campuses. This spring, the Student Resource Center is working to connect WSU Vancouver students with those advantages by sponsoring the 2014 Career and Internship Fair.

Students interested in networking opportunities and other resources for employment and internships are invited to participate in the Fair, which begins Tuesday, Feb. 11 in the Firstenburg Student Commons. The fair, sponsored by Career Services, a part of the Student Resource Center, is free and open to all current Washington State University undergraduate and graduate students and alumni.

Students and alumni are also encouraged to register and submit a resume online prior to the fair. Registration is free and can be done by visiting the Student Resource Center’s page at vancouver.wsu.edu and clicking on the registration link. The fair exhibits different industry focuses on three different days: General Business: Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2:30 – 5 p.m., Engineering & Computer Science: Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2:30 – 5 p.m. and Non-Profit, Government & Sciences: Thursday, Feb. 13, 2:30 – 5 p.m.

While the registration form gives students an opportunity to choose which days they would be interested in participating, students of all majors are welcome and encouraged to attend multiple days.

According to vancouver.wsu.edu, the three-day fair gives students and alumni the opportunity to meet with representatives from more than 80 local companies hiring for internships and full-time positions. Even those that are not yet looking for a job or internship, this is an opportunity to practice interacting professionally with employers and to get to know some local organizations.
